BikeAthens Hosts League Cycling Instructor (LCI) Training July 21-23

In conjunction with the League of American Bicyclists and Safe Routes Athens, BikeAthens is proud to host a League Cycling Instructor training session July 21st-23rd. League Cycling Instructor training provides the educational tools necessary to teach safe and enjoyable cycling practices. LCI certification will allow experienced local cyclists to lead comprehensive, effective bike safety instruction for children and adults. BikeAthens will call upon its trained LCI's for future Kids Bike Rodeos, entertaining, interactive seminars on bicycle safety.
In preparation for their certification as local bike safety instructors, seven BikeAthens members took part in a recent two-day "Effective Cycling" class sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and taught by LAB instructor Walt Mather of Jonesboro, GA.

For the upcoming LCI training session in Athens, certified LCI Chris Daigle will travel from Louisiana to teach the course. Two current LCIs from Atlanta will assist him. In all, eight Athens residents, five Atlantans and one person from Alabama are enrolled in the Athens training course.

After the initial certification provided by the July 21-23 LCI training, the instructors will participate in periodic refresher seminars throughout the year.

Both Safe Routes Athens and the Mayor's Community Improvement Fund are providing funding assistance. The UGA English department is donating space for the LCI seminars.
