Email Comments on Milledge Extension Multi-Use Path

Part of the resolution adopted to fund the expansion of the auto-centric Jennings Mill Parkway provided funds for alternative transportation projects. Athens-Clarke County Transportation and Public Works (TP&W) has recommended expenditure of these funds to convert a currently unused section of Milledge Extension into a multi-use path. This path will provide pedestrians and bicyclists safe access to the shops on South Milledge Ave. BikeAthens supports this recommendation.

On October 8, 2009, TP&W Director D. Clark presented a conceptual plan to ACC citizens and solicited comments on the proposed plan.

The comment period has closed, please contact your commissioner.

Dear Director Clark,

I support the proposed conversion of Milledge Extension into a multi-use path. The conceptual plan makes appropriate use of an abandoned county resource. Specifically, I support the plan because:
The addition of marked crossings and pedestrian islands at S. Milledge and Loop 10 exit, will provide safe access to shops and services at S. Milledge.
The proposal appropriately accommodates users of all abilities and appears to be ADA compliant.
The newly constructed segment of the trail is of a scale and material type that conforms with the existing greenway.
The proposal accommodates plans for future greenway projects.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.

Thanks for your advocacy.
