Bike Athens Press Release

Road 1 Cycling Course set for Athens on Feb. 16-17

BikeAthens will sponsor Athens’ first "Road 1" road cycling course on Feb 16-17 at The Center for Teaching & Learning, located off Baldwin Street (in the courtyard between the Psychology and Journalism buildings) on the UGA campus. Friday evening's session will run from 7-10 p.m. and continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. thru 3 p.m. A special discounted rate for the two-day session is being offered: $45 for adults and $30 for students.

Road 1 gives cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on trails. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills and crash avoidance techniques and includes a student manual. Recommended for adults and children above age fourteen, this fast-paced, nine-hour course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling. A multi-speed bicycle and a helmet are required, as parking lot drills and on-road riding is included.

Road 1 is one of several cycling courses that are included in the League of American Bicyclists' BikeEd program. The classes are taught across the United States by certified League Cycling Instructors (LCI), experienced cyclists who've completed rigorous training and testing provided by the League.
