The greatest impediment to cyclists and
walkers is not distance or terrain but safety (both real
and perceived). Safety in turn, is negatively affected by increased
speed of auto traffic. The
probability of serious injury and death increases with increasing
speeds (80% of people hit by cars traveling 40 MPH die).
Prince
Avenue is zoned 35 MPH with, in general, a 10 MPH enforcement leeway.
Thus, Prince Avenue becomes a 45 MPH thoroughfare.
