ACC BIKE MASTER PLAN
Included in the SPLOST 2000 referendum was a item to develop a
master plan to be included in the Bicycle Transportation Improvement
Project. The Master Plan will help guide decisions in the near and
long term.
ACC Transportation and Public Works contracted with Gray-Calhoun
& Associates, Inc. to develop the BMP. In summer of 2001, this
contractor began work by creating an inventory of streets within
a 3 mile radius of downtown. G-C&A also conducted a survey of
cyclists in Athens to identify cycling popular trip origin/destination
points and prefered travel corridors.
After analyzing the data, the committee issued draft version of the
plan in September 2001. TP&W held a public hearing to solicit
input on the plan and also made available a set of maps that summarize
the plan.
