Riding a bike is a healthy and energy efficient
way of getting around, but in many cases road conditions are
too dangerous for safe riding. For years residents of Athens
who choose to bike have resorted to riding on sidewalks or
risking it in traffic, but now there's hope for a safer future.
Thanks to the government of Athens-Clarke Country and the
University of Georgia, working in cooperation with BikeAthens,
a network of bike lanes and paths is slowly on its way to
being built. This section will help keep you up-to-date on
our efforts towards completing a bike network in Athens-Clarke
County.

Road Diets (PDF)
Putting a road on a "diet" means calm traffic and
encourage safer biking, crossing, and transit user access
by reducing the number of lanes. Read "Road Diets"
to learn more about expanding safety and access by putting
unsafe and congested roads on a diet.
